Solutions to Common Blogging Mistakes You Make

This guest post is written by Asif from asiogroups.com. Checkout his blog for more blogging & marketing tips. You can also Follow him on Twitter at @asiogroups. You can guest blog here too, check out details.

When I started blogging, I made many mistakes and got frustrated with it. I saw many people who were putting less effort than me and doing much better than me. Then I started observing what is the difference in their blogging and mine. I came to know about many things. I would like to talk about few Mistakes and how they can be taken care of.

Not Updating Your Blog Regularly

If you go with the definition of a blog, it is a type of website which shows the content in chronological order, which means, the least post on the top with a time stamp. Then why do you keep your blog away from a new post for days? You should add fresh piece of content on a regular basis for your readers.

If you feel that you have written all the great content in your Niche and there is nothing left, you can the write short posts talking about your Best old posts. This will make new readers to read your old post and they will feel that your blog is still live.
Creating too many blogs at the same time

People feel if one blog makes them $100 then 10 blogs are going to to multiply their income (100×10=$1000). But this isn’t remotely true. Because when you work on 10 blogs, your effort and time will be divided into 10. It would take you 10 months to achieve what you can achieve in just one month.

I have got many friends who work on just one blog, make a good living from it and are able to balance their life pretty well. While others are just doing the labor of writing everyday and night.
Spending too much time on Designing and Coding

I am not into designing and coding, So it takes me hours to just do a tweak in my blog theme. I have to admin that I have spent so much time doing the designing and coding all by myself. It took all my free time and I was not able to focus on the content which resulted in my blog not getting the desired exposure.

Then one day I decided to hire a Designer and asked him to give me a nice design. meanwhile I was working on the content. He took a week to design my blog and I used that whole one week to create content as I did not have to worry about the Designing part of my site.
Not trying to Make Money outside the Blog.

Bloggers usually follow only one or two methods on monetization and they forget to leverage their online business experience. Few months ago, I wrote an eBook and distributed it for free on the blog and submitted it here and there., I made good money from that eBook (thanks to the affiliate products I recommended in the eBook). Bloggers who are serious about their blogging and consider it as a business. they need become more than a blogger.

Well, this is not it, there are so many other things which should be kept in mind. The best thing is to keep experimenting about trying different methods.

Blogging Blunders Which I Made And How You Should Avoid Them

I may was a pro-blogger but when I started Word Tweeting, I made several mistakes which didn’t make Word Tweeting a big success. I shorted out the four biggest blunders and sharing it with you, for you can get some brains from it.

Posting Frequency

I damned this. Word Tweeting is almost 6 months old and it has only 39 blog posts, including this one. That is around 6 blog posts every month. Is it bad? Yes, it is very bad. For a successful blog, one should post at least 20 blog posts every month. This engages the one time visitor into a returning reader. Displaying date in the post helps it too.
Not Interacting With The Blog Community

Look into most blog’s archives of 2007, and you will find my regular interaction on entries. I even endured a good reputation among fellow bloggers. But, after starting Word Tweeting, I didn’t interact with the blog community much. It must be only 5-6 comments I made to other blogs which I read in this 6 months.

Is it bad? Yes.

Interacting with the blog community helps you make an identity for yourself. Bloggers need to know you. They need to get where you blog and about what you write. Commenting on other blogs, participating in interactions on forums, Twitter, e-mails with fellow bloggers help you make a reputation. But commenting doesn’t mean spamming that blog with “Good Post” titles. You need to interact.
Not Gave My Blog The “Required” Time

You can call “studies” my excuse for this but one the big blunders I made was not giving the “required” time to my blog. That resulted in both, les posts, no interactions, etc. Remember I wrote a post back about Blog Priority? You blog don’t ask for your time to do useless things like theme tweaks, widgets switches etc. I asks you to, write, which I sadly didn’t.

Got Diverted With Niche

The biggest mistake – I flickered with my niche. Word Tweeting was started as a blog on WordPress and Social Media. But I later added Gadgets to it. After that, Advertising and Productivity. I got confused with what to write. Is that a big problem? Oh yeah!

You need to keep the tech blog reserved to tech, a money-making blog to making money and auto blog to cars & bikes. Your readers gonna run away if you start posting about cars on your tech blog. You need to be reserved to your blog niche – you may add sub categories, but they need to be related to your niche, completely.

Those were my most favorite blogging mistakes I made on Word Tweeting. Did you made any? Of course you did, share it!

iPhone 4 Launch In India Soon?

Airtel MicroSIM Card Spotted – Can This Mean An iPhone 4 Launch In India Soon?

Now this is interesting! FoneArena has bring forth some exclusive pictures of the MicroSIM card of Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom network. An inquiry to local Airtel dealers mentioned it to be available all over India latest by mid October. These cards are typed as H2 by Airtel and should be 3G supported SIMs.

Now as no MicroSIM supported phones has been launched in India yet, this shows some sign of a scoop – that the Apple iPhone 4 is coming to India soon. It is speculated that Airtel will launch iPhone 4 in India by October, no official news about it though.

We can anyway confirm that the time has come. But on price factor everyone is silent. If Airtel launched iPhone 3GS for Rs. 35,500 in India early this year, the iPhone 4 should cost around Rs. 40,000. Hopes high, for a lower price!

What you think? Is it the plan for iPhone 4 launch that Airtel has brought forward these MicroSIM cards, or can this be a mere market step or some new standards adaptation.

Another Instant Search, This Time For Facebook – Facebook Instant

After the launch of very Google Instant, there has been a buzz about this whole “instant” search phenomenon. After Google, a Stanford student adopted the idea and mafr a YouTube Instant search and got hired by Google for a similar project.

Now there’s another try from Syrian developer Nour Syron to create, this time, an instant search for Facebook – the Facebook Instant.
Facebook Instant Search

Facebook Instant Search

Now this Facebook Instant is quite interesting, much more than the Google and Youtube instant searches. Why? Because it’s for Facebook. Some of the features of Facebook Instant Search are:

It’s instant, obvious, so as you type the results appear
It can search pages, posts and events
All the three results are shown in columns on a very single part making things less complex
You can search public timelines for posts, events, pages etc.
After logging in, you can search your own and your friend’s streams, including comments too

The tool is done very nicely, kudos to the 20 years old. Because of the lack of extensive search option in Facebook, this tool is surely going to do big.

Try out the Facebook Instant now!

Have You Tried The Disqus App For Android Yet?

If you haven’t noticed, Word Tweeting has been again switched to Disqus comment system. With the recent developments done, fixes for bugs and new features added, the Disqus is now again the ultimate comment system a blog can have.

Now while installing Disqus today, and having a look at the links on their site, I found a great tool for mobile users. Disqus, before too, used to have a mobile interface but sometime earlier they introduced apps for major mobile platforms too.

Disqus Android

I use a HTC Desire and downloaded the Disqus app for Android. Gosh! The thing really works. The app has got a very sweet interface – simple and attractive (all blue in color). Some nice features of the Disqus app for Android are:

Moderating comments – approving, rejecting and deleting comments
Marking comments as spam
Filtering comments as spam, comments, trackbacks
Notifications for new moderation, status etc.
Search for text and links in the comments
Reply to comments

I’ve installed the app on my Android (HTC Desire), what about you? Search for “Disqus” the Android App Store or scan the QR code with your phone to download the Disqus app for Android.

Download Disqus Android

The Disqus apps are also available for iPhone and Palm platforms.

Nexus Two is Comming

agosto 5th, 2010

A month back when Google CEO Eric Schmidt said in an interview, that Google will not going into hardware anymore and would concentrate on Android and Chrome OS development. It led to a big news that Nexus One will be the first and last cellphone from Google. But how far can that be acceptable?

I don’t believe the much talked about news. I see a Google Nexus “Two” coming soon, maybe in 2011. Why I think so? Reasons.

Eat shit, if you say Nexus One was not a success. The only phone which made possible for Android to replace iPhone from top smart phone shares was Nexus One. It was closest a cellphone can get to defeat iShit iPhone, and it almost did. Trend setter for 1GHz processors in cellphones, Nexus One still sells like cats & dogs.

Not much-needed to explain, the name itself. Nexus One. Promises itself, that a Two has to be lining up.

Remember when Google talked about a Nexus with slashed down configuration for third world countries, or similar. Still a lot to talk about it but that shows Google was working on hardware plans, unlikely what Schmidt said that they pre-planned that Nexus One would be first and the last.

I see an importance for Google to do a Nexus One, too. Why? iPhone 4. Apple was a main competition for Nexus One, and when iPhone 4 is bring all those features under an aluminium box, Google have to work on something to keep its name. And a Gingerbread itself won’t do, something to run it is also expected. Maybe a Dual Core 1 GHz Snap Dragon? Or a 2 Gigs instead? 😉

Why You Should Not Waste Time About Digg

Why You Should Not Waste Time About Digg – The Front Page Jargon

Every blogger dreams to hit his blog post on to the front page of the Digg. It’s a big, big source of traffic. You get like, 2000 unique visitors least if you hit the Digg front page.

But I see it different. It is totally useless to waste your time struggling to get on the Digg front page. I see many bloggers mailing, tweeting fellows for digging their post. Believe me, it isn’t going to make any difference to your readership.

Why you should care about Digg?

It is because getting on the front page is very hard. If your blog post is not that “worth”, you won’t get more than 10-20 diggs which isn’t enough for the front page. Make it simple, don’t digg your content yourself, wait until someone really finds it worth and send it to Digg. That way, it works better. Let the content be the king.

Similar Content

Submitting content is okay, but Digg gets thousands of such stories everyday. I mean how can you expect your blog post on details of iPhone 4 launch hit the front page when there are giants like Techcrunch, Mashable etc. This way, your content needs to be very “unique”.

Digg Algorithm

Sometimes I see bloggers success in getting their submits enough digg, somewhere around a 100 but still don’t hit the front page when the front page post has only 70-80 diggs. It is because of the Digg algorithm. It can’t be cracked! If you try, you gonna get banned or die trying.

You Need Readers, Not Visitors

Let’s take it that you made it to the front page of Digg, finally! And your post got a whopping 5000 unique visitors in a day. But did that help? That traffic isn’t constant. You need returning visitors who are constant and loyal. You also need subscribers – RSS, Email, Twitter, any medium. Statistics says only 10% of the total visitors from Digg return, and 3% subscribe to your blog. Again, a fail!

You still need traffic? I suggest trying something else, like other comparatively smaller bookmarking sites. I highly recommend Blog Engage. Go ahead, experiment and gain readers, not visitors.

The Google Story In Two Minutes

While stumbling on Twitter, I found a link to this very cool video on YouTube. It is an animated video on the Google story.. It has everything from 1995 when Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford to the recent 2009 launch of Chrome OS and Wave sensation. And the amazing part, it is just a 2 minute video.

It missed out important moments like the launch of Nexus One, the Google phone but as this video was made in 2009, it can be understood.

For RSS / Email readers who can’t see the video – see it on YouTube.

Check What Was Your First Tweet On Twitter

Posted by Rishi on January 2, 2010 in Tools, Twitter · View Comments

We tweet daily, almost anything we come in mind with. But do you remember your first ever tweet which you posted on Twitter?

TwitterStorm is an online tool which let’s you know your first ever tweet you posted on Twitter. As Twitter has archive limit of 3200, it can be hard to see your first ever tweet. But TwitterStorm using API calls, gets it for you. It is very easy to use also, just visit www.twitterstorm.info, enter your Twitter username is the big box there and hit the submit button. It will get your first tweet on Twitter. Now what I found missing in this tool is that it doesn’t show the timestamp of the tweet, no date or time.

My first ever tweet on Twitter was “Hi!”, very stupid I know! What was your’s?
